The new immigration rules for the Active Investor Plus visa took effect in April 2025, reducing investment thresholds, eliminating English-language requirements, and significantly shortening the residency establishment period from three years to just three weeks!
The Business Investor Work Visa will become available for applications in November 2025, offering two investment options:
(i) A NZD $1 million investment in an existing business, providing a 3-year work-to-residence pathway
(ii) A NZD $2 million investment in an existing business, providing a 12-month fast-track to residence pathway
These options lead to eligibility to apply for the Business Investor Resident Visa.
A Business Investor Visa may be issued for up to 4 years.
Applicants can either fully purchase a business on either visa pathway or acquire at least 25% of the business, as long as they meet the minimum investment thresholds of $1 million or $2 million.
Eligible applicants may also include their partner and dependent children in their application.
This recent initiative by the Government aims to attract skilled and talented individuals and their capital to the country. The relaxed rules now allow business-minded experts to enter the country and work towards residence. It is noteworthy that there is a significant difference between the new policy and the Active Investor Plus (AIP) visa, which required an investment of NZ$ 5 million or NZ$ 10 million in approved investments.
